As I’m writing this, the snow has decided to fall early this year. Not only has summer long since ended, but it also seems that fall has too. Before we get too sad or excited about the winter weather, depending on what you prefer, there is always the last hurrah for summer!
At the end of September each year, the historic Chico Hot Springs puts on the Chico Block Party. This is a community event where visitors from around the world gather with the locals from the Valley to enjoy BBQ, live music, and dancing. One of the things that I think is most culturally special about the Valley is the atmosphere of local country/folk artists who perform at breweries and venues like Chico all summer long. What makes it more special is all the people that still know how to dance!
Montana Rose is the band that has played for the Chico Block Party the last few years, I don’t know if they will ever switch that up. The food is good with burgers and hotdogs coming right off the grill, various salads, along with pulled pork and brisket options if you prefer. There are plenty of beverages for kids and adults with tables set up all around for friends and family to gather, eat, and chat the evening away.
I say this was our last summer hurrah, but for many, including us, it was the summer’s first hurrah too! Living in a popular tourist area, business for most locals doesn’t slow enough for fun outings until the end of September when we all catch up at Chico.
If you’re looking for a great way to see how the locals live in Paradise Valley, I highly recommend this annual event. Of course, if you can’t make it then, you can always check in on concert schedules for any of the local breweries or restaurants to make your visit to Montana complete!
What do you do to celebrate the end of summer? Is there a place/event you really like to go in your area that not many tourists know about? How is the weather in your part of the world?
