The Code of the West: Always Finish What You Start

The irony of today's post is not lost on me! So far I've already missed two days of the October challenge 🤦‍♀️ I suppose this part of the Code of the West doesn't necessarily mean that you won't hit a few speed bumps along the way. Just because you miss your footing or fall off the horse here and there, doesn't mean that you should quit! The difference between people who are successful and people who never quite make it is the self-discipline to always finish what you start.

There are so many applications for this Code! From a Creator's perspective, it is so easy to start that Facebook Page, YouTube channel, blog, or e-commerce site, and it's getting simpler every day. However, once you really get going you realize how much work goes into building your brand and creating your content. There are many days when you may get no views at all! It would be really easy to give up, but my guess is that you started creating for a reason and if you're following the Code then you won't give up until you've reached that goal.

I think the reason we have this part of the Code of the West is that it is so easy to get distracted by all the other things going on in our lives. We wash and dry the laundry... does it get folded and put away the same day? We start writing that book that's been in our head for ages... how many weeks, months, years does it sit unfinished and consequently unpublished?

Beyond just the self-discipline to always finish what you start, there is a certain attitude of grit needed to get this one done. Watch any number of YouTubers tell you what their early mistakes were when they started their channel or read any number of bloggers reasons they grew so slowly in the beginning... I bet nearly all of them tell you that fear of criticism and failure held them back from doing what they love and are now so successful at. To always finish what you start, you have to overcome that fear!

So whether it's saving for a downpayment on your first house or taking the leap to start your own business, I challenge you to finish what you start. This is definitely a challenge to me as well!

What do you need to finish? What goals are you setting now? How does this part of the Code of the West motivate you to pick up and finish some dreams you've had on the back burner?
